A power of attorney for health care allows one person (the Principal) to grant power to another person (an Agent or Attorney-in-Fact) to make medical decisions for the Principal during a period of illness or incompetence.
This can mean authorizing any type of medical treatment, surgery, medication, and can include approving or rejecting life-extending services.
“Durable” means that the power of attorney will continue to exist if you become incompetent or so ill that you are unable to answer.
